YO PORTLAND!
“Annoyed Grunt” marks the first solo show by graphic artist and illustrator Mr. Kiji since being struck by a car while riding a bicycle to work. The accident caused nerve damage which left Mr. Kiji with an inability to feel or use his hands to draw for several months following the accident. As a result Mr. Kiji spent months utlizing the computer as his sole creative outlet developing a new visual style.

“Annoyed Grunt” is an assemblage of observations, daydreams, portraits and studies created digitally between commercial projects. The animations and artworks presented range from elements of the absurd and surreal to the mundane. “Annoyed Grunt” is a unique opportunity to explore the unexpected art that exists between the daily grind of commercial illustration and personal expression.

This is the first and only exhibition of unique 63 prints produced in small edition specific for this exhibition. Additionally available are a 16 page limited run catalog, T-Shirt, Buttons, Posters and Buttons.

Mr. Kiji has made a name for himself by producing quirky vector graphic work. By working digitally he has created a robust visual vocabulary achieved through an efficient use of simple geometric shapes and a unique use of color. Mr. Kiji graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Industrial Design. Since graduating he has worked in a variety of capacities in the design field before focusing his efforts full time to Illustration and Graphic Art projects. His client list includes AOL, Bloomberg, Converse, HTC, MTV, The New York Times and Sprint. Beyond his commercial work he has show in galleries in Copenhagen, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Vancouver.

“Annoyed Grunt” opens October 4th at Compound Gallery in Portland Oregon. The reception is from 7pm-10pm. The Show closes October 27th.
